East Ham Town Hall Annex
Project Description:
The Town Hall Annex was built in the early 1930’s and has been used as offices for Newham Council until 2019. Following relocation, the borough has decided to carry out a full refurbishment and convert the building from office space to 40 residential apartments. This will be achieved by carrying out a complete strip out and refurbishment of the main building while retaining many of the original features, removal of old low level ancillary buildings and the addition of a two storey roof top extension.
In addition to the internal work the design team were tasked with refurbishing the external façade which included repairing many of the original Art Deco features to return the building to its former glory.
Key Challenges:
-
Working on a listed building
-
Asbestos investigation and removal
-
Extensive intrusive structural investigation works
-
Imposed loads onto the existing structure
