The Hospitals of the Future Project is a project to create a state-of-the-art hospital that can serve Leeds and the wider community for at least 60 years. The project is composed of three distinct elements, an extension to the current adult acute hospital, an adult and maternity hospital, and a new Leeds Children’s Hospital.

The development is approximately 101,000m2 and will be physically connected to the existing Jubilee wing, to allow the trust to operate as an efficient unit.

The design sits on piled foundations on which a concrete frame will provide basement, ground + 18 levels of wards, theatres, clinic and workspaces and plant. The hospital will also benefit from a number of roof gardens and terraces that will provide open spaces to patients to support their care.

Plant areas are located throughout the building within the basement and Levels F, O, R1 and R2. These areas fully support the energy needs of the hospital. Vertical circulation will be provided via 6 cores, of which cores 3 and 4 are located centrally to provide patient and visitor hospital access.

The multi-storey car park provides 602 car spaces in the current preferred layout of ground + 8 floors. The roof of the split-level car park holds an excellent opportunity to host partly a green roof and partly an area for PV panels to support the EV strategy.

The client has directed the design team to deliver a sustainable project that is considerate of Modern Methods of Construction.
