Grosvenor Square has undergone a year-long transformation as part of an almost decade-long programme to reimagine London’s second-largest garden square as a greener, more accessible and biodiverse urban garden.  The works represent a fundamental redesign of the Square, incorporating extensive new seasonal planting, trees and wetland habitats, improved soil and drainage performance, enhanced public amenities, accessibility, lighting and safety.

Reopened: 20 July 2026.

History: Only the fourth major redesign in the Square’s 300-year history.

Investment: The largest private investment in green space in the West End in a generation.

Planting: 150,000 new plants and bulbs, 44 new trees and new wetland habitats.

Soil improvement: Soil has been aerated across an area equivalent to twice the size of a Wembley Stadium pitch.

Climate resilience: The improved soil can absorb approximately 1.4 million litres of stormwater, equivalent to around 28 London buses.

Accessibility: The redesigned Square is step-free and wheelchair accessible.
